Adverse Childhood Experiences [ACES]
What we experience or are exposed to as a child or young person can have a detrimental effect on
our mental and physical health as both a child and later on in adulthood.
This may impact severely our ability to achieve our potential.
Some of these areas could be:
Being subjected to physical sexual and/or emotional abuse.
Exposure to drugs and alcohol in the family.
Family members being involved in the Criminal Justice System, serving a prison sentence.
Having a close family member with a several mental health issue.
Breakup in a family through divorce, death or being taken into the care system.
Bereavement.
WELLBEING WARRIORS
This is a programme of between 8-10 sessions training children/young people to recognise
when their peers may be upset anxious or worries and gives them the confidence to approach
and support them.
Each Warrior is equipped with:
- understanding and knowledge
- an identification lanyard
- information give out
- a folder with more information
and works with teachers and other staff in the school being available through playground duty
on a daily basis.
